The village of Cordes-sur-Ciel is located in the French region of Midi-Pyrenees. It is connected by railways and roads to the nearby cities of Albi and Toulouse. Three international airports are located in the vicinity of the town: Toulouse, Rodez and Carcassonne.
Cordes-sur-Ciel is a medieval fortified town called “Bastide” founded in the XIIIth century AD. It is nowadays part of the cultural and gastronomic route in the south-west of France. It is situated in the heart of the wine growing area called “A.O.C. Gaillac”.
The purpose of this masterplan is to propose a residential development including 60 residences and some communal leisure facilities (swimming pool, club house, tennis court, petanque square), that enhances the sense of community and place. The urban development, in the shape of a walled village, is surrounded by a major landscape improvement, keeping the original forest areas, planting new trees along the new roads and square, transforming the communal open space into vineyards. This gives a specific identity for this development: the Village in the Vineyards.
