As part of the KSS group/aLL Design team, ISArchitects was in charge of the conception of the masterplan for the new Town of Purfleet-on-Thames on the border of East London.

The 62 hectares site is a brownfield site, locked between marshlands, the Eurostar train line, former quarry cliffs, industrial sites and the Thames estuary. It is linked by train to the City of London (in 30 minutes only).

The brief calls for 2500 housing units (in various forms), film studios, a hotel, retail and F&B facilities, a train station, primary and secondary schools, a health centre and nursery, a university facility and several public open spaces.

The masterplan concept is to create a new Town Centre with a high density urban core gathered around a Central Civic Square. This square (composed by a market square and a Green) is linked to the river by a mixed-use high street and a diagonal street ending to a pier dedicated to entertainment.

The landscape strategy provides riverside embankments, a green corridor along the railways linking an ecological public park to the Green and the newly landscaped quarry cliffs.
